Donations

We would be most grateful for donations of current material for the Science Fiction Foundation Collection. We rely entirely on the generosity of publishers, writers and fans, and our consultancy work, for money to spend on adding to the Collection.

The Science Fiction Foundation Collection, held at the University of Liverpool Library, is the largest English-language collection of sf in Europe. We welcome donations of all kinds of material to do with science fiction and related genres. In particular, we need to build up our stock of critical works, and audio-visual material, including sf on computer-readable media. We would also welcome anything by or about science fiction/ horror/fantasy writers with a Liverpool or Merseyside connection - e.g. Ramsey Campbell, Clive Barker, Eric Frank Russell, Olaf Stapledon, Charles Eric Maine, or John Rankine (Douglas Mason). We are especially keen to hear from anyone associated with Liverpool Fandom, pre- or post-war, who has material or reminiscences of that era.

The Science Fiction Foundation Collection is also a valuable and unique depository of limited-circulation and ephemeral material in the science fiction field, and we would urge fanzine or small-press editors, or convention organisers, to send copies of their publications for our archives.

The Science Fiction Foundation Collection also welcomes financial donations. Since the move to the University of Liverpool in 1993 a vast amount of books and magazines have been given to us. We've also received a number of important manuscript and archive deposits, including those of John Brunner, Ronald Chetwynd-Hayes, Stephen Baxter and Colin Greenland. We need to make sure these, and our collections of magazines and fanzines are properly cared for in archivally sound acid-free boxes and envelopes. Much of this material is in fragile condition and needs to be preserved. Preservation is, unfortunately, expensive.

Please consider making a donation to the Science Fiction Foundation or the University of Liverpool to support the preservation of our sf heritage!
